If you have a printer that was produced in the last 5 years, chances are there is USB connection supported. USB ports look like little rectangles that can connect one electronic device to another. So what does USB stand for anyway? USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. While that probably doesn’t mean a lot to you, it does do a lot for you. USB has become the standard connection of communication for computers and electronics. The amount of things that can connect via USB is surprising. Keyboards, digital cameras, disk drives, portable media players, printers and smart phones are some of the most popular devices connected via USB. Video game consoles and PDAs also use USB. USB connection is not only the means of connecting one thing to another, but in many cases USBs have become a means of charging portable devices too.

USB isn’t just a type of connection between big devices, though, it also can be a means of transferring information. If you have a flash drive, you have actually been using it as a mover of memory. Small storage devices with these functions are called USB mass storage devices. Flash drives are great because they give you the option of taking information from one computer to another. You just plug the USB in and your information can be transferred. Most new machines come with the ability to use these USB devices.
